چکیده

BACKGROUND We present a case of a 51-year-old male patient with pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) of the left temporomandibular joint (TMJ) that initially presented as a slow-growing left facial mass. Upon further workup, a contrast-enhanced CT scan demonstrated an expansile soft tissue mass in the left TMJ. METHODS The lesion was diagnosed through fine-needle aspiration biopsy. The patient was treated with resection of the TMJ, temporal bone, and root of the zygoma. A temporalis muscle and temporoparietal fascia flap was used for reconstruction to fill the defect and provide contour. RESULTS Postoperatively, the patient has been tumor free with excellent cosmesis. Our case demonstrates a very successful outcome. CONCLUSION Previous literature has also reported that complete excision is an ideal procedure for PVNS of TMJ, but temporalis rotational flap use has been rare. This case and previously reported cases in the literature are also reviewed.

Second Metatarsophalangeal Joint Pigmented Villonodular Synovitis: A case report

Pigmented Villonodular Synovitis (PVNS) is an uncommon condition of the foot. PVS of the foot accounts for 2% of all cases. We present the case of a 26 year-old male who was found to have pigmented villonodular synovitis of the second metatarsophalangeal joint. Although a high incidence is reported in the literature, the patient underwent surgical excision with no known reoccurrence to date. Fi...

The diffuse form typically involves the large joints, while the localized one typically occurs around the small joints of...

Arthroscopic approach for treating a pigmented villonodular sinovitis of TMJ. A case report

The present report describes the case of a 29-year-old man referred to our service for TMJ pain and progressive reduction of the mouth opening. Differential diagnostics included rheumatologic diseases, monoarthritis and intraarticular lumps. In this line, a face CT scan and a MRI of TMJ were carried out in order to ensure a proper diagnosis. These tests showed a solid lesion into the joint cavi...

Pigmented villonodular synovitis of the temporomandibular joint: diagnostic imaging and endovascular therapeutic embolization of a rare head and neck tumor.

We report a case of pigmented villonodular synovitis involving the temporomandibular joint that presented as a rapidly growing tumor with extension through the skull base into the middle cranial fossa. The case is of interest not only because of the unusual extensive infiltration of this tumor but also because of the role modern diagnostic imaging and endovascular therapeutic techniques played ...
